As we age, our bone tissue begins to decrease. Without a healthy diet and lifestyle habits, like exercising, you can develop a condition known as osteoporosis.

This condition is a thinning of the bones coinciding with a reduction in bone mass due to calcium and bone protein depletion. Osteoporosis leads to an increased risk for fracture, postural changes, physical abnormality, and decreased mobility and range of motion.

While this disease is often more prevalent in females due to postmenopausal hormone changes, osteoporosis can also impact men. The two most important steps to take to help prevent osteoporosis are:

1.  Leading an active lifestyle that consists of daily weight-bearing exercise and resistance training. Exercise causes the bones to become stronger and denser. Some examples of exercise that will help to lower the risk of osteoporosis are walking, stair climbing, aerobic exercise, and weight training to develop the muscles that support the skeleton.

2.  Consumption of a diet that is rich in calcium and vitamin D will build and maintain bone tissue. If one is unable to consume the necessary daily values through diet, supplements are recommended as an alternative.

As you can see, these are simple steps that one can take in order to potentially reduce and even eliminate chances of osteoporosis. If you have any questions for us, don’t hesitate to give us a call or send us an email. We look forward to hearing from you soon.
