RMR, or Resting Metabolic Rate, refers to the total number of calories burned when your body is completely at rest.
It's the number in which you need to know when starting your exercise protocol. Simply put, it's the baseline number in which you would use to start if you were to add or subtract calories to help you reach your goals.
Here is an example - -
Let's say Timmy has an RMR of 2000, meaning he burns 2000 calories at rest every day. Timmy has a goal of wanting to lose 10lbs. We can use this number to calculate the timeframe in which it will take Timmy to reach his goal. There are 3500 calories in a pound, so we must burn 35,000 calories to lose 10lbs.
First off, as an example, we would aim to burn 500 calories a day with exercise. 7 days a week. Doing this alone would burn 3500 calories over the course of the week. That right there is 1lbs he should lose in a weeks time. With doing just this, he will lose 10lbs in roughly 10 weeks.
Let's take this a step further and look at his nutrition. As an example, let's say we drop his calories to 1700 a day. This would create a deficit of another 2100 calories over the course of the week (300x7). Combining this with the 3500 calories he is burning working out, his total calorie deficit is now at 5,600 for the week,
If we moved forward continuing this method until Timmy reaches his goal, it would take a little over 6 weeks. Make sense?
Pretty cool, right?
Even cooler, here in a few weeks we at Black Clover will be receiving a BodyGem device. This device is like a breathalyzer where you sit for 10 minutes and breath into it and it calculates your RMR based on your body's VO2. It is very specific for each individual, unlike some of the online calculators where you enter height and weight, etc. Once you know your number, the possibilities are endless.
If you have interest in knowing your specific number, please let us know. We'd be happy to help you once we receive the device!
