Summer is coming to an end and fall is right around the corner. Kid’s are back in school and things are starting to settle down again and you may be thinking to yourself that now is the time to get active and what better way to get active and stay active then participating in 5K or any other type of race. Below I’ve put together a list of some upcoming races all the way through the end of October. Saturday, September 21st – Storm The Fort 5K
Summary: This is an event to support our local veterans, and a chance to pass through history as you meet the challenge of running through the gates of the Fort Atkinson State historical park. Show your support for our troops with your best costumes and T-shirts. Face paint, fatigues, camo, anything that shows your military spirit. Prizes will be given for best costumes!

Saturday, September 28th - Tap ‘N’ Run Omaha
Summary: This event combines a ridiculous running race - a 4k with 3 beer chug stations* along the race course, a full beer at the Finish Line, crazy costumes, great times with friends, and overall ridiculousness. (*chug stations = 5 oz. of beer per cup)

In addition to being a part of an awesome and unique racing experience, all participants will receive a sweet Finisher's medal (that doubles as a bottle opener...no, really), the equivalent of over two beers, a Tap 'N' Run t-shirt to commemorate your amazing accomplishment and entry into the uber-frivolous Extracurricular Awards Ceremony.
Saturday, October 5th – Running Dead 5K – Dash and Bash
Summary: Get ready to run for your life in this zombie infested 5k! The Running Dead 5k is taking over Westfair Fairgrounds in a unique obstacle course style 5k event you won’t want to miss.

Before the race, each registered racer will be given a flag belt with 3 flags attached. Throughout the course of the race, racers will encounter zombies (some may be wondering alone, while others may be “hunting in a pack”) wanting to take your flags.

If you lose all your flags before you reach the finish line, you will be considered a “Zombie” when you cross the finish line and will not be eligible for prizes.

Sunday, October 6th – Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure
Summary: Susan G. Komen fought breast cancer with her heart, body, and soul and though she lost her battle with the disease, her legacy lives on through the work of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure®. Her sister, Nancy G. Brinker, started the organization in Susan’s honor and with the promise to her sister that she would do everything in her power to end breast cancer. Komen for the Cure is a global leader of the breast cancer movement, having invested more than $1.9 billion since its inception in 1982. Komen’s promise is to save lives and end breast cancer forever by empowering people, ensuring quality care for all and energizing science to find the cures.

Sunday, October 13th – Heart Heroes Super Run
Summary: Calling all Heroes!! This 2K or 5K walk/fun run is to raise awareness for Congenital Heart Defects (CHD). CHD stands for Congenital Heart Defect. A baby born with a heart that is abnormally formed has CHD. There are many different types of CHD. To date, over 40 types have been identified, yet little is known about most of them. Some types of CHD require immediate surgery to correct the defect, while others pose relatively little threat to the child.

Monday, October 21st – Jones Bros 5K-ake Challenge
Summary: Run the sweetest race in town!!! Brought to you buy Bier Run Racing. Run a mile, eat a Jones Bros. cupcake, repeat.
Jonesin' for a 5K? Join us for the first annual 5k-ake Challenge! This isn't your typical road race. All runners will be required to eat a mini-cupcake at each mile marker before they are allowed to proceed. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation. This is a great race for everyone in the family, kids are welcome!

Saturday, October 26th – Vala’s Monster Dash
Summary: BOO! The most Spooktacular race of the Fall is right around the corner! Vala’s Pumpkin Patch will once again host this community event. It’s a Frightfully Fun time for the entire family with the Monster Dash 5K Run/Walk and the Little Goblins Runs. Costume Contest, Three Legged Races, day passes into the Patch, and more await at one of the Midwest’s favorite attractions.
