OMAHA BIKING TRAILS
Are you wanting to get outside to exercise but don't like to run or have knee or foot pain that is keeping you from running? Biking would be the next best outdoor activity for you to do in order to get in a good workout and minimize impact; in addition, to having a fun time. While Omaha may not be a hot spot for biking it does have quite a few paved road bike and off road mountain bike trails to ride on. Just make sure that you are always wearing your helmet.
Two of the most commonly used paved trails in Omaha are the Keystone Trail and the West Papio Trail. The Keystone Trail is the longest trail in the metro area reaching roughly 24 miles in length. If you are looking for more of a scenic ride the West Papio Trail would be the path to take. Omahatrails.com offers a great map and details of all the trails in Omaha.
If you're one really looking to get off the beaten path visit trailshaveourrespect.org for a great list of off road trails around the Omaha area. A trail that I personally really like is the Tranquility Park trail located near 124th and Fort. Off road trails offer a little more of a challenge and excitement to a bike ride. The Thursday Taco Ride is a great social ride that takes place on the Wabash Trail over in Council Bluffs.
Another site to check out would be mapmyride.com. This site shows different routes that others have taken that you could follow. You can also create and log your own routes for others to try to follow. Challenge your friends to beat your route time.
Overall biking is a great way to get your heart rate up and burn extra calories. I challenge you to try to commute to work or run some errands once a week on your bike instead of just always driving. Why not get in some extra exercise while you can?
